WHO WE ARE

With solidarity, respect, and hope…

SYNESIS PIGI AMKE is a non-profit social initiative founded by members of the Turkish community living in Greece. Our goal is to support people forced to leave their countries and settle in Greece – especially refugees, asylum seekers, migrants, people with disabilities, the unemployed, and the homeless.

WHY WE WERE FOUNDED

We started in 2020 in Athens.
“Synesis” means understanding and wisdom in ancient Greek. “Pigi” means source.
Our name reflects our respect for Greek language, history, and culture.
We believe in a society where migrants and locals are equal in rights and dignity.

WHO WE SUPPORT

We help all vulnerable groups in Greece:

  • Refugees, asylum seekers, students
  • Economic migrants
  • People with disabilities
  • The homeless and jobless
  • Victims of domestic violence
  • Children, women, the elderly, and youth in need
We do not discriminate based on gender, age, religion, nationality, or legal status.
Access to basic needs is a right, not a favor.

WHAT WE DO

Our main services include:

  • Housing, food, clothing, and basic needs
  • Psychosocial programs
  • Greek language and integration classes
  • Safe spaces and support for families
  • Special support for women, children, and the elderly
  • Cultural events and intercultural dialogue
  • Awareness campaigns against violence and discrimination
  • Promoting volunteering and community engagement
  • Educational support for children and youth

OUR MISSION

We’re not just a support group — we empower people.
We believe in peaceful coexistence, democracy, and human rights.
We work for access to housing, education, support, and dignity for all.
We build trust with the local community.

Because:
Solidarity unites.
Dialogue brings us closer.
Cooperation creates sustainable solutions.

OUR VISION

We imagine a more just, inclusive society that respects human dignity.
SYNESIS PIGI aims for a future where diverse communities live together in trust and peace.
We want a world where no one is excluded and everyone can participate equally.
The openness, justice, and humanity of Greek society is our strongest ally.

We believe:
Learning together, we heal together — and build a peaceful future.

OUR FOUNDERS

With a sense of duty — from the community, for the community…

SYNESIS PIGI AMKE was founded by people who migrated from Turkey to Greece and chose to give back to society. They come from different professions, cities, and personal stories but share one core value: respect for human dignity.

Our founders include:

  • Teachers (especially working with migrant children)
  • Social workers
  • Health professionals
  • Artists and cultural activists
  • Refugee community representatives

They didn’t just start the organization—they shaped its values and culture. They still volunteer, support new members, and guide those we help.

“This organization doesn’t only look at who needs help — but also who can offer it.”
– A founding principle

Synesis Pigi AMKE history

founding & early years –

establishing the foundation

Synesis Pigi AMKE was established in Athens in 2020. During its initial years, the organization was unable to carry out active operations due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and financial difficulties.

2020

core structure & policies –

focus on organization restructuring

Following changes in the board of directors and with the support of our sister organization, Pigi Koinsep, our activities resumed in a more dynamic and organized manner. In order to ensure the sustainability of our operations, an office was rented by Pigi Koinsep.

During this period, food and clothing assistance was provided primarily to refugees and individuals in need. In addition, Greek language courses catering to all age groups and proficiency levels were launched. Educational support courses, social activities, and excursions were also organized for primary and secondary school students.

To ensure the sustainability of our activities and expand our outreach to more people in need, cooperation protocols were signed with various humanitarian organizations operating in different countries around the world. These organizations include Time To Help Foundation, Tuna Foundation, and Embrace Relief Foundation.

In addition to our ongoing activities, collaborations were developed with municipalities and various civil society organizations. During the same period, official and active participation was maintained in meetings organized by UNHCR.

As our activities and number of volunteers increased, several platforms were established to create a more organized structure, and our volunteers began actively contributing within these platforms. The established platforms include:

  • Education Platform
  • Social Support, Solidarity, and Environment Platform
  • Women Empowerment Platform
  • Legal Support Platform
  • Psychological Support and Health Platform
  • Youth Platform
  • Moral and Ethical Values Platform
  • Culture and Arts Platform
  • Dialogue, Integration, and Media Platform

the expansion & growth –

achieving significant milestones

During this period, the active work carried out through these platforms significantly increased both the number of volunteers and the scope of our activities. Our Thessaloniki branch and the Olimpus Youth Center, dedicated to youth activities, were officially opened.

Additionally, a storage facility was rented to ensure the proper preservation and distribution of donated aid materials to those in need.

Furthermore, we actively participate in meetings and activities organized under the Athens Municipality, including SEMP, KEM, ACCMR, and Refugee Week Greece. We also take an active role in the SEMP and KEM meetings and activities organized by the Municipality of Kallithea.

In addition, a representative of our organization serves as a board member of the Greek Forum of Migrants and actively contributes to initiatives aimed at strengthening migrants’ rights, social inclusion, and representation.
